Histoire des ocicats

L'Ocicat est un chat encore rare en France. L'Ocicat doit son nom à sa robe rappelant celle de l'ocelot. A la différence du Bengal (croisé à l'origine avec un chat-léopart d'Asie), l'ocicat n'a de sauvage que son apparence. Ocicat is a still rare cat in France. Mais au fait, d'où vient l'Ocicat ? En 1964, une éleveuse américaine, Virginia Daly, voulait obtenir des siamois tabby point. Pour cela, elle maria un chat croisé Abyssin-Siamois avec un Siamois chocolat. De cette union, naquit le premier Ocicat, à la robe particulière qui rappelait celle de l'Ocelot. Ocicat vient donc de la contraction entre les mots Ocelot et cat. D'autres mariages eurent lieu chez d'autres éleveurs, entre Abyssins, Américains shorthair, Mau Egyptien et Orientaux. L'Ocicat est un chat-chien, très actif et comme le bengal ne supportant pas la solitude. La TICA et la CFA reconnurent la race en 1986. Le premier Ocicat arriva en France en 1989. L'Ocicat peut vivre en appartement. C'est un chat paisible, bavard, sportif et très sociable. Compagnon fidèle, il a absolument besoin de compagnie animale et/ou humaine. L'Ocicat peut être très bavard parfois, quand il mange, quand il est en chasse ou en chaleur. Mais il peut être très silencieux, oui mais pot de colle toujours !! Ocicat can live in apartment. He is a peaceful, talkative, sports and very sociable cat. Faithful companion, he absolutely needs animal and\or human company.  L'Ocicat a de grands yeux ovales légèrement en biais (héritage des orientaux) comme ornés de mascara. Son poil est court, fin, dense, soyeux. C'est un super pot de colle, assez possessif. L'ocicat a yeux ovales jamais bleus, et des oreilles moyennes mais si possible ornées de plumets, comme le lynx. Une chatte pèse 2,5 à 4 kilos, un mâle peut aller jusqu'au double.
